A History of Restoration:
“Solus Por Aqua” – “Health or Healing
through Water”
Since ancient times, people have bathed in
natural springs, gone to the sea, and frequented
spas to restore their balance. Water cleans and
refreshes all life, cleansing us internally and
externally. We are naturally drawn to this precious
fluid because the human body is made up of more than
80 percent water. Water has been used to assist the
body in cleansing and re-balancing itself since the
beginning of time. Formally introduced by the Greek
physician Hippocrates in the fourth century BC,
hydrotherapy has been a part of the ancient healing
traditions of Greece, Egypt, Italy, and many other
civilizations. The oldest Roman spa still exists in
Merano, Italy, dating back 5,000 years ago. The
letters S-P-A frequently appeared on Roman walls, an
abbreviation for “Solus Por Aqua” meaning
“health or healing through water.”
Throughout history, all societies have had their
own ways of assisting the body to detoxify itself.
One the oldest methods known to mankind is to cause
the body to sweat or perspire to purify itself of
accumulated toxins and to relieve stress. Sweating,
as a therapeutic treatment and a form of
restoration, has taken on different forms in various
cultures throughout time. As early as 200 BC, India
used “Swedana” as a treatment for purifying the
body. The Russians used a process called “Banya”
dating back more than 1,000 years ago. During the
same era in Finland, saunas were created to assist
the body to heal itself. “Sweat lodges” are an
ancient North American Indian tradition.
In China, it is known from the ancient scrolls
dating back to 1100 AD that sweating was an
essential factor in re-balancing the body. This
method of therapy was named “surface-relieving or
surface-releasing.” It was believed that if sweat
were not produced, the treatment procedure would
fail because the “evil influence” (toxins)
had not been released from the body. The ancient
practice of reflexology is unique from all other
forms of bodywork. The primary focus is to assist
the body in re-balancing itself by relaxing the
feet. By focusing on the feet, the body
re-establishes its own natural state of health.
The Platinum Energy Systems™ Foot Spa merges the
healing properties of hydrotherapy, sweating, and
reflexology. In today’s highly stressful world, this
Foot Spa is one of the easiest, most pleasant, and
most convenient ways of restoring your health
through water.
